A Letter from the Executive Director The Class of 2006 began their project planning at the very first session and have successfully completed their community service project! The Class Project is an important aspect of Leadership Anaheim curriculum. It provides the participants a chance to work together to accomplish a common goal, investigate an activity for the “greater good” and use each of their individual skills to create a workable team. By the third session, the Class of 2006 had decided to support a local event in Downtown Anaheim and create an opportunity for Anaheim’s younger members to participate in the walk/run and feel accomplished and successful too. The class solicited sponsorships for the kids to join the Downtown Run in June 2006. They also encouraged the elementary school children along the route. Because of their efforts, over 80 children had the chance to join in a community effort and get involved in their city. Class continues for the group and July will be the sixth of nine sessions. July is Community Services for Young People, Seniors and other special community programs. This class will be the first to visit a completed Tiger Woods Learning Center and see the results of work within the community. Canyon Acres, Disney GOALS and the Anaheim Family YMCA are just a few of the other programs that will be shared. The remainder of the sessions will focus on Business Development in the city, the Platinum Triangle Project Progress, Public Utilities and the new Wi-Fi in Anaheim, the Arts in Anaheim, Public Works, and volunteerism. Leadership Alumni will be hosting a special presentation by Anaheim’s Marcie Edwards, Public Utilities, and learn about the energy issues in the city. This special event will be held in early September. Look to the website for specific date and information. Youth Leadership graduated the Class of 2006 in May at the Ebell Club. The enthusiastic young people have volunteered to assist with Leadership projects this summer (and other community events) to “get ready” for their autumn recruitment onto the campuses of Anaheim high schools. The graduation was well attended with students and parents and all the YLA groups shared their community service projects and accomplishments.
Finally, check the “event” section of the website for specifics on the “Summer Celebration” – see you on Thursday, July 30!
